What is Reflexology?

Reflexology works on the principle that there are reflexes on the hands and feet that are linked to all organs, muscles, glands and other areas of the body.  By applying a pressure technique to the hands and feet and stimulating these reflexes, this relaxing therapy can affect the corresponding organ or system of the body and help restore and maintain the body's natural balance.

At your first Reflexology appointment, the practitioner will undertake a full consultation to build up a picture of your health and lifestyle.  This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions.  You will then be asked to lie on a treatment couch, or sit in a reclining chair and remove your shoes and socks.  You will never be asked to undress.  The practitioner will 'meet and greet' your feet, noting information such as the temperature and hydration of your skin, your nails, any infections, corns or callous.  These visual observations can provide useful information on your current state of health.

The practitioner will then cleanse your feet before starting with some relaxation techniques, followed by a routine of thumb and finger walking, to apply pressure to the tiny reflex points.  This should not be uncomfortable, however if there is an area of the body that requires rebalancing, the corresponding reflex may feel tender.  It is important that you tell the practitioner if anything feels sore.

At the end of the treatment, the practitioner will use some further relaxation techniques and will then encourage you to drink some water to help hydrate your body and stimulate the detoxification process.

After the treatment is complete, the practitioner will discuss your thoughts on the session and note any areas that were tender or required attention.  An aftercare plan will be suggested and you will have the opportunity to ask further questions and agree a treatment plan.

Everything that you discuss during your Reflexology treatment is totally confidential.  All of your treatment records are secured and maintained in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
